Quick Tool Tip – More Boolean Searches

By Sarah Jane Gray, MyMediaInfo

Did you know that the keyword search in MyMediaInfo is a Boolean search operator? Here are a few more tips on how to make the most of your searches.tip_image

Or – By using “or” between words, the search engine looks for either of the words in your results, but not both.  This helps you cover all your bases when looking for a topic that could have multiple synonyms. Example: internet or online, green or environment.

Not – Using “not” in your search eliminates topics that are not relevant to you or alternative spellings. Example: “oil spill” not “BP Oil Spill”, Lyndsey not Lynsey.

” ” – Using “quotes” around a string of words lets you search for exact phrases. Example: “family vacation” “wind energy”. This is the most specific search.
