And let’s not forget about the fantasy sports frenzy that leads up to the game! The world’s passion for sports has created an interest in sports news, statistics, game strategies, player profiles, and sports history that covers every sport on the planet.  These 10 sports experts share their passion for bringing you news updates, information and insights into the world of sports on Twitter.

Note: This list is compiled based on Twitter activity, followers and other criteria beyond popularity.

  1. @espn: ESPN is one of the most popular go-to sources of sports news. The ESPN network’s Twitter feed carries the latest sports news and analysis from the NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL, NASCAR, college football and basketball, boxing, MMA, golf, tennis, and much more. @espn has 32,711 twitter posts to date and a whopping 1,003,664 followers! This has earned the twitter page an MMI rank of 20 with 5 stars.
  2. @MLB: Major League Baseball boasts the honor of being called America’s national pastime. MLB.com provides news, videos, player information, statistics, game schedules and much more for both baseball fans and experts alike. The Twitter page provides news, offers, and exclusive Twitter giveaways, among other things. @MLB has 28,285 tweets and an amazing 1,110,276 followers! It also has an MMI rank of 24 with 5 stars.
  3. @SkySports: This is the official Twitter page of Sky Sports.com, not to be confused with @SkySportsNews, an unofficial Twitter feed. Sky Sports encompasses a group of sports television channels broadcast in the UK and Ireland.  Their Twitter feed provides frequent updates and the latest sports news with an MMI rank of 27 and 5 stars. They have 67,134 followers and 50,508 tweets.
  4. @injuryexpert: Will Carroll is a sportswriter who covers sports injuries for various outlets including Sports Illustrated. He’s a member of the Baseball Writers Association of America and the Pro Football Writers Association. His candid opinions have brought him 12,823 followers for his 39,461 tweets.  He has an MMI score of 100 with 5 stars.

**To recreate this list: If you are a customer of MyMediaInfo, and have access to the social media module of the database, then you can recreate this list using some easy steps.

1. Click on the Social Media Module. On this page, under the ‘Twitter’ column, click on ‘Beats/Focus’.

2. Now select the Top-level beat “Sports” and click “OK”. This will bring you a large list of twitter pages that fall under that beat.

3. To further refine your search, click on the “MMI Score/ Rating” option on the box below the ‘Refine search’ message. Now select the 5 stars option, and click “OK”.

4. Click on “Get Result” to view the results of your search.

5. Now, click on the column called “MMI Score”, and the list will rearrange in ascending order. Remember, the smaller the MMI score number, the more influential the Twitter handle. General news magazines, broadcast channels etc. have been removed from this list to keep it purely about sports.
